Cultural Immersion: Dialogue, Storytelling, and Dance with the Nanticoke Nation

November 13 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

About this Event

Join us for an event featuring storyteller Ragghi Rain and the Nanticoke Nation multigenerational dance group

This event will begin with opening remarks by Dr. Bonnie Hall, a leader in the Nanticoke Nation. Ragghi Rain, a renowned Native American storyteller, will captivate the audience with traditional stories that highlight the rich cultural heritage and wisdom of Native American people. Afterward, guests will enjoy a vibrant and engaging dance performance by the Nanticoke Nation multigenerational dance group. Following the performances, all are invited to enjoy light refreshments, including Indigenous and sustainably-grown coffee and chocolate from the Peruvian Amazon. Guests may also visit the Mechanical Hall Gallery, adjacent to the performance and view the exhibition MINE: What is Ours in the Wake of Extraction. Curators will be in the gallery following the performance to answer questions.

MINE: What is Ours explores the impact of illegal gold mining boom on the Madre de Dios region in the Peruvian Amazon, which has led to immense pollution of the air, land and water; deforestation; disease; human trafficking; drug smuggling; disparate economies; and an all-too-real danger of losing the culture and traditional ecological knowledge of the Harakbut and other tribes.
